Known as the Buckeye State, Ohio has large amounts of buckeye trees, though they are toxic. The Native Americans would grind the outer layer of the buckeyes to help in their fishing.
Ohio has a large population of people of German ancestry, but that doesn’t affect the popularity of traditional Polish jelly-filled doughnuts called paczki. Traditional Ohio foods include Shaker lemon pie and buckeye candy. A little known fact is that the state’s official beverage is tomato juice! Notably, the state produces maple sugar, honey, and apples.
