A former farming state, Wisconsin’s economy is increasingly reliant on regional tourism and services. Wisconsin makes more cheese than any other U.S. state – including Wisconsin’s native Colby cheese – and also has a food processing industry, although Wal-Mart is the state’s largest employer.
Traditional Wisconsin foods include Colby cheese, flat bread, apple sauce cake, and German cakes. The state boasts a number of annual country music festivals and is known for its high rates of alcohol consumption.
